April Newsletter- Marathon Edition

April Newsletter: Marathon Season Is Here

After 16–20 weeks of training, the race that once felt a lifetime away is finally here.

And if you’re being honest, your mind might be racing just as much as your legs will soon be. The little niggles feel louder. You’re second-guessing the weather, your fuelling, your pacing plan. You’re wondering: Will I hit my goal time?

This is completely normal. Welcome to marathon week… and yes, even the pros feel it. We call it maranoia for a reason.

But before you get too caught up in the noise, take a moment to zoom out.

Think about what you’ve already done.

All the early mornings and long runs.
The sessions you didn’t feel like doing—but did anyway.
The races along the way where you surprised yourself with new PBs.
Maybe you joined a new run club, found your people, and became part of something bigger.
You’ve built habits, routines, and resilience.
You’ve dialled in your fuelling.
You’ve committed to strength & conditioning and now feel stronger than ever.
You’ve learned, adapted, and been inspired by others around you.

That’s not small. That’s everything.

The marathon? It’s just the icing on the cake.

Marathon Week: Keep It Simple

With race day approaching, your goal now is not to gain fitness—it’s to remove stress and execute what you already know.

Here are a few key reminders to keep you grounded and prepared:

1. Practice What You’ve Planned
Stick to what’s worked in training. Your race-day routine, fuelling the night before and morning of, even your kit—none of this should be new.

2. Lay It All Out Early
The day before, get everything ready:

  • Race kit (tried and tested only)

  • Shoes

  • Bib + pins

  • Watch + charger
    Eliminate decisions on race morning.

3. Pack Your Marathon Bag
Think beyond the finish line:

  • Extra fuel

  • Fluids

  • Tissues (trust us)

  • Warm throwaway layers for the start

  • Snacks for after

  • Spare clothes

  • Baby wipes

  • Recovery shoes

  • Phone + anything else you’ll want post-race

4. Plan the Logistics
Know your route to the start, your wave time, and where you’ll meet friends or family after. The fewer unknowns, the calmer you’ll feel.

Race Strategy: Control What You Can

Set A, B, and C Goals
Give yourself a performance range. Not every mile will be perfect, and that’s okay.

Run the Effort, Not Just the Pace
GPS can drop—especially in busy races. Know your 5K splits and stay tuned into how you feel.

Expect the Unexpected
Weather changes. Crowds surge. Legs fluctuate. Stay flexible and composed.

Don’t Miss the Experience

This isn’t just a race—it’s an event.

Soak it in.

Visit the expo.
Join a shakeout run.
Chat with other runners—you’re all part of the same story this week.

And on race day itself: be present.

Look around.
Feel the atmosphere.
Acknowledge the work you’ve put in.

You’ve earned your place on that start line.

Final Thought

Whatever happens on race day, it does not define your training block.

You’ve already achieved something significant.

Now go out there, trust yourself, and enjoy it.

We’re rooting for you every step of the way.
